Dean Drieberg is an in-demand creative with over two decades’ experience in theatre, advertising and events.

In 2023, Dean directed the Australian Premiere of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 for Darlinghurst Theatre Company. He is Resident Director of the International Tour of HAMILTON after being Resident Director of the Australian and New Zealand tour. In 2022, he directed the Australian Premiere of Stew and Heidi Rodewald’s PASSING STRANGE (nominated for 5 Green Room Awards including Production of the Year) for Antipodes Theatre Company, for whom he directed a development of Michele Gould’s 107 (2021) and a reading of Harrison David Rivers’ THIS BITTER EARTH (2020). In 2020, Dean worked alongside Jarrod Draper to create his sold out solo shows for Darlinghurst Theatre Company.

Dean is Co-Artistic Director of Stephen Sondheim repertory company Watch This, alongside Melanie Hillman. In 2019, he co-directed SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE with Sonya Suares for Watch This, receiving two Green Room Award nominations for Best Direction and Best Multimedia Design. He directed and designed BARE THE MUSICAL (2018) and the Australian Premiere of MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL (2017) for StageArt at Chapel Off Chapel. Dean has taught workshops for Arts Centre Melbourne, Performing Artists Company and for The Philippine Educational Theater Association/Youth Advocates Through Theater Arts.

Dean studied at WAAPA and VCA before performing in HAIR with The Production Company, MORNING MELODIES with Marina Prior at Hamer Hall, EUROBEAT for Melbourne International Comedy Festival, A NEW BRAIN and BAT BOY with Octave Theatre. 

Dean was Associate Producer for StageArt’s acclaimed production of FALSETTOS and was Company Manager for their Australian Premiere productions of THE COLOR PURPLEDREAMGIRLS and IN THE HEIGHTS as well as their productions of SPRING AWAKENING, TITANIC THE MUSICAL and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER

Dean has worked on over 20 national tours such as MADIBA THE MUSICAL, MATADOR, THE 39 STEPS, BOMBSHELLS and AUSTRALIA DAY; playing at over 50 capital city and regional venues around Australia and New Zealand. Dean has produced numerous advertising campaigns and major events across Australia, Tokyo and New York; including New York Fashion Week and PROJECT RUNWAY USA.

Dean was Vice President of the Green Room Awards Association, a founding member of The People of Cabaret and is an advocate for theatre that is inclusive of Indigenous, Bla(c)k and people of colour, artists with a disability and LGBTQIA+ artists.
